And if befalls you bounty from Allah he would surely say as if (had) not there been between you and between him any affection, "Oh! I wish I had been with them then I would have attained a success great."
View 80 More Translations ↓But if good fortune comes to you from God, such a person is sure to say - just as if there had never been any question of love between you and him -: "Oh, would that I had been with them, and thus had a [share in their] mighty triumph!"
But if a bounty from God visits you, he will surely say, as if there had never been any affection between you and him, 'Would that I had been with them, to attain a mighty triumph!
But if good fortune comes to you from Allah, they would be sure to say - as if there had never been Ties of affection between you and them - "Oh! I wish I had been with them; a fine thing should I then have made of it!"
وَلَىِٕنۡ أَصَـٰبَكُمۡ فَضۡلࣱ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لَیَقُولَنَّ كَأَن لَّمۡ تَكُنۢ بَیۡنَكُمۡ وَبَیۡنَهُۥ مَوَدَّةࣱ یَـٰلَیۡتَنِی كُنتُ مَعَهُمۡ فَأَفُوزَ فَوۡزًا عَظِیمࣰا ٧٣
wala-in aṣābakum faḍlun mina l-lahi layaqūlanna ka-an lam takun baynakum wabaynahu mawaddatun yālaytanī kuntu maʿahum fa-afūza fawzan ʿaẓīma
